An excerpt from one of the Historical pages.
Steve and Debbie Collison, inspired by their deep love for animals and their concern for the future, established the National Endangered Wild Animal Research & Conservation Center, Inc., NEWARCC, in 1985.
In 1990 NEWARCCs Petting Farm was started to introduce children of all ages to animals. This close contact with animals in a natural setting leaves lasting impressions on all visitors. The goal is to inspire children to help protect our environment, conserve our wildlife, and preserve our farms.
NEWARCC is a non-profit, tax exempt, conservation organization. It is privately owned and operated. NEWARCC is not funded or subsidized by grants or by any government organization. NEWARCC is able to maintain and care for its animal inhabitants due to support from the community and the hard work of its volunteers. NEWARCC is able to persevere in its commitment to preservation, education and enrichment only if the admission fees, animal sponsorships and donations are continually available. All of the proceeds from tours, events, sponsorships, donations, etc., directly benefit the animals in residence. It is NEWARCCs goal to continually enrich the animals environments, while providing the visitors with many opportunities for fun, education and enjoyment.
A single country lane leads to the seclusion of NEWARCCs Petting Farm. The petting farm is located on Waymore Farm in Davidsonville, Maryland.
The animals have been carefully selected to bring visitors the joy of experiencing a variety of domestic, rare and endangered animals. Here, they are all a part of the family.
At the petting farm, treats are provided for children to feed the pot-bellied pigs, miniature donkeys, llama and sheep. Everyone loves to pet the African Pygmy Goats, rabbits and other baby animals. But there is much more to see -- Cougars, Tigers, Rheas, Reptiles, Exotic Birds, Waterfowl and more.
Special hay rides are given for groups to tour Waymore Farm. Visitors ride through fields of seasonal crops, by a pasture of cows, horses and ponies, and a pond nestled near the woods. Sometimes visitors get a special treat on the hay ride of viewing some local wildlife in their natural habitat. Some of the local wildlife that may be encountered are White-tail Deer, a Bald Eagle, Canadian Geese, Great Blue Herons, Ducks, Squirrels, Chipmunks, Groundhogs, a variety of Song Birds and more.
NEWARCCs Petting Farm is a great place for everyone to visit. The experience is full of fun, excitement and education. At NEWARCC, everyone will feel included in the loving atmosphere of the farm, and gain a loving respect for animals and the environment.
Donations are always welcome at NEWARCC. They are tax deductible and always directly benefit the animals. The proceeds are used to feed the animals, maintain and build facilities for the animals, supply veterinary care for the animals and pay for petting farm utilities and incidentals.
Anyone can make a donation to the National Endangered Wild Animal Research & Conservation Center, Inc., NEWARCC. No amount is too big or too small. And any help is greatly appreciated.
NEWARCC is also participating in the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area. Our 4-Digit Code Number is 22550.
